Our hackathon project was to help fight COVID-19 with social network theory. Our assumptions is that the R0 or reproduction number is above 1 and vaccination efforts aim to bring it below 1. The problem is that we must optimize and maximize vaccine readiness (willingness). This is important because the vaccine is limited in supply, high in holding cost, and very time sensitive. Our proposed solution is to identify individuals willing to get vaccinated, develop alert system to notify select individuals of vaccine availability, and maximize/optimize vaccine delivery to as many people as possible

Our project is about understanding and bringing awareness towards mental health in the COVID-19 crisis and during the pandemic. We feel that there is an importance now more than ever for those who need help to get it. Our awareness will come in the form of details about COVID, along with a positive view of mental health around the world.

During the pandemic, social media platforms such as twitter and instagram play an important role in health agencies, government organizations, hospitals, and medical journals to disseminate information in a timely and up-to-date manner. On the other side, social media can also spread negative emotions or misinformation. By doing the sentiment analysis of information on social media based on big data, knowing people's attitudes towards covid-19, government and health agencies can take actions in advance. For example, a larger amount of covid vaccine can be provided for those states with an open attitude. In this project, we will do some data visualization of people's attitude and make prediction of people's emotion.
Team 9 - Health Alert
Chia-Jo Chen
Mariella Dela Cruz
Smitha Kannanaikkal

Health Alert is an early real-time detection of COVID-19's vaccine side-effects in various locations. The goal is to send immediate help to those in need, especially in areas affected by an outbreak.

This is a website or app which gathers text data from social platforms to send health alerts in their community. Website would provide a dashboard with real-time data to show how outbreaks are moving across different locations, severity of side-effects from vaccines or medications, and types of side-effects.

Our focus is to build a portfolio of words gathered from text data, then use NLP to help build an ML model that can predict urgency so that we can provide help to those in need when they need it.
